Europe 1300 bumpers style |
||
This project was a real challenge, this bumpers were very crapy and we need to rescue, starting to remade the bolts from the rubber blocks to refill holes from rusty surfaces. Then adapt to my X1/9, my X1/9 is 1979 and had a different kind of brackets. This bumpers are very hard to find, also is harder here in US because this bumpers came from Europe. USA have a similar bumpers on 1974 models, those are shorter and different bigger rubber blocks, on my opinion 1300 Europe model have more style and looks nicer. I paid for this bumpers a little bit, maybe pricey but who cares! those were very rusty and holes here and there, rubber blocks was almost impossible to rescue. To start I peel, burn, grind etc. etc. all the blades and remove all the layers of paint, The rubber blocks bolts where rusty and some broken, we needed to pull out the old studs and install a new ones, I cut around the rusty holes till to remove all rust as possible, now how to fill the the holes? on this time I didn't have a welder machine and send to fix where not my option, I found on my tools a small fiber glass kit, I read the instructions because I never used before this kind of material and thought why not! by the way if isn't work just I need to remove the fiberglass so I fill the holes with this material, and refinish with bondo, applied four layers of primer and inside 4 layers of silver rust-oleum paint and front 4 layers of black, and ready! Next challenge: Adapt to my X1/9 I made the Instructions if anybody wants to make this project. |
